We have had a long standing relationship with the HMI Corporation which not only spans several years but we have also had the pleasure of working with various HMI staff.  The HMI staff have been engaged in assisting us with staying current on regulatory issues related to compliance, billing and coding; conducting coder quality reviews;  auditing coding and billing to insure completeness and compliance in order to receive appropriate reimbursement and in providing education to clinical department staff as well as chargemaster staff in order to charge appropriately. 

 

We have found the HMI staff to be current on issues, provide timely communications of regulatory changes and relate the impact of those changes to our specific facility’s situations.  HMI staff provides resources and supporting documentation on which they based their findings and conclusions.  They are always willing to assist with specific questions and guidance to resources whether regulatory, billing or coding, when our staff is researching issues.

 

The HMI staff not only has years of experience in billing and coding, they bring a varied background in working with all types and sizes of hospitals and physician practices to their company.  This range of experience and the sharing of knowledge from other settings is valuable in the review and discussion of questions and issues.

We have been using HMI for several years as our outside compliance and auditors. Annually HMI performs a random audit of our charts and educates the staff on any issues that arise.  HMI continues to educate the staff during the year as needs arise and rules and regulations change with the carriers.  We have always found their information to be reliable, thoroughly researched with the references of that research available for our use.  HMI sends the same auditor each year so there is continuity of information.  This auditor also is very familiar with our practice so it is easier for her to identify areas for improvement.

HMI was highly recommended and they have lived up to this reputation.  We are grateful to have them on board.
